I’m on the radio …

I was interviewed on The Writers Lounge, a blog talk radio show. It was new and fun. I liked it and you should check out this show because it’s cool. Check out my episode here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/the-writers-lounge/2012/03/06/the-writers-lounge-presents-isaac-sweeney

Chronicle Blog: I Live in the World

The other day before class started, a student was listening quietly to music in the room. It was the beginning of the song, before the singing started, and I recognized it as “Country Girl (Shake it for Me),” by Luke Bryan. This is a silly country song with a catchy beat. I can’t say I’m crazy about it, but it’s been on the radio so much that I know most of the words. So I started to sing along with the lyrics.

The student stared at me in disbelief. When the shock wore off, she spoke, “How do you know that song?”

I’m Still Here

I can’t seem to access wordpress from my school’s network and I’m living with my in-laws, who only have dial-up. But I’m still here, so I’ll update every now and again … somehow.

Chronicle Blog: ‘A’ New Adjunct Movement

If you see a red “A” on a colleague’s door, it probably doesn’t mean “Adultery.” The “A” is for “Adjunct.” I first heard of this movement from Katherine Burke, a part-time instructor in the School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University, who posted the idea on the Con Job: Stories of Adjunct and Contingent Faculty Facebook page. She didn’t come up with the idea originally, she says, but she is committed to raising awareness, especially among students. You can see a photo of Burke’s “A” at her blog.

Chronicle Post: I’m Not Asocial

I’m not asocial. I promise.

As a new faculty member at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Va., I’ve been invited to a couple social gatherings and to join a book club for faculty and staff members. I’ve joined the book club on a part-time basis, and I haven’t been to any of the social gatherings. I’m just too busy right now.

Getting Around

My nonfiction essay ebook, Daddy Die Hard, went free at Amazon a few days ago. It’s still “selling” well, with almost 800 downloads at Amazon alone (it’s also at Smashwords and its various channels for free). By the way, if you read this, I’d love for you to leave an honest review at Amazon, Smashwords, or anywhere.

Me and/or my ebooks have been featured in a couple other places recently as well. One is a listing of Hard Creek Bridge (also free) at The Reader’s Guide. You can read a short interview at Indie eBooks, where Evolvement is featured. I also have some super-short fiction at AustinBriggs.com (you can vote if you like this or not).

Check ’em out. Thanks!
